A Sunny, Summer Afternoon

On a sunny, summer afternoon in 1952, probably a Sunday, family
members and neighbors had dropped by to spend some time catching up

on the latest family and neighborhood happenings. It is possible that some
of the family had come from a good distance and everyone had gathered to visit.

Television was still very new in 1952 and was not available on the weekends

and folks' lives had not yet become filled with the influence of TV on the

imagination. It was a time when spending time was more than just hanging

out. In the words of our cousin, Shawn, "It was a time to be."
